Vritomartis is the name of a goddess from the Minoan era.Her name is an amalgamation of the word 'vrito' which in Cretan dialect, means sweet, and 'martis' - maid. Also, according to Solinus, her name means virgo dulcis, or "sweet virgin".

The family is originally from Sfakia. Because of its climate and pristine landscape, this region was the best choice to build this natural resort. Nikos Dourountakis explains, "In general, Greek society is more open now than in the past. Naturism and diversity are supported by the society because of the benefits. Although there may have been challenges, the hotel's commitment to providing a respectful naturist experience probably contributed to the acceptance of naturism in the region."
