Vritomartis Naturist Resort
Plenty of sun, sea and other bliss in Crete
Vritomartis Naturist Resort is a renowned, modern naturist hotel in Chora Sfakion, in the beautiful south of Crete. It was founded in 1992 by the local Dourountakis family. Which was way ahead of its time. Today, scion Nikos manages the naturist resort, together with a team of about 50 people who ensure the smooth operation of the resort daily and that guests will have memorable experiences during their stay. Both seasoned naturists and ‘beginners’ are more than welcome. The welcoming and inclusive resort is embraced by the stunning natural beauty of the surroundings.
Naturist pioneers
Vritomartis was born out of a passion for naturism and a desire to offer naturists a special space where they feel comfortable and free. The naturist concept and its principles offer many benefits for the body and mind. 32 years ago, opportunities for naturists in Crete and Greece in general were limited. The Dourountakis family saw an opportunity to fill that gap with a unique offer.
Vritomartis is the name of a goddess from the Minoan era. Her name is an amalgamation of the word ‘vrito’ which in Cretan dialect, meaning sweet, and ‘martis’ – maid. Also, according to Solinus, her name means virgo dulcis, or “sweet virgin”.
The family is originally from Sfakia. Because of its climate and pristine landscape, this region was the best choice to build this natural resort. Nikos Dourountakis explains, ‘In general, Greek society is more open now than in the past. Naturism and diversity are supported by the society because of the benefits. Although there may have been challenges, the hotel’s commitment to providing a respectful naturist experience probably contributed to the acceptance of naturism in the region.”

Those extra-large rooms offer an unrivaled experience of privacy and luxury. They were named Sofia, Eleni, Katerina, and Eleutheria – in tribute to the important women in CEO Nikos’ life.
